Moshi is home to the Wachagga people, who began settling the area between the 11th and 15th centuries. Renowned for their ingenuity, the Wachagga developed sophisticated irrigation systems and terrace farming techniques that are still admired today. Their legacy lives on in the region’s lush, cultivated hills and the deep cultural pride of Moshi’s residents.

Coffee and bananas flourish on the higher elevations, while lower areas support vast sugar plantations, maize and bean farms, and one of the country’s largest sugar factories.
